ANNOUNCING THE NEW

COMMUNITY COMPASS

A new version of Community Compass will launch on March 30, 2023 for all users. If you have questions about this change, read on for answers!

QUICK OVERVIEW: wHAT ARE THE BIG CHANGES?

We redesigned the app and added new features to make it easier for you to find the best food resources for you. Scroll through the carousel below to see an overview of some changes you’ll find on the new version of the app.

Available in 11 Languages

Both the web app and the mobile app are now available in 11 languages–English, Arabic, Burmese, Chinese, French, Haitian Creole, Hakha Chin, Karen, Spanish, Swahili, and Yoruba. You can easily switch between languages by selecting the langage dropdown menu on the top right side of the screen.

SNAP & WIC Calculator

Both the web app and the mobile app are now available in 11 languages–English, Arabic, Burmese, Chinese, French, Haitian Creole, Hakha Chin, Karen, Spanish, Swahili, and Yoruba. You can easily switch between languages by selecting the langage dropdown menu on the top right side of the screen.

Home Screen Navigation

Our home screen looks and functions differently now. You can now use the search bar to find resources by name or location, or you can select a category to see all resources in that category. As you scroll down, you’ll be able to preview some of the resources available nearby.

Share a Resource

Found a great resource and want to share it with a friend? You can now easily share details about a food pantry, meal site, SNAP or WIC store, WIC clinic, or event. Just press the “share” button and select the app you’d like to use to share the resource.

Updated Wording

Some of the words used throughout the app have changed in order to make it easier to understand. For example, “retailers” has been changed to “stores,” and “eligibility” has been changed to “who can get food.” If you’re still confused by any of the words used on the app, check out the glossary on our Help page.

New Filters for Free Groceries & Free Meals

Sometimes there are so many available food resources that the map can be overwhelming. That’s where filters come in. You can now filter map results to see food resources based on:

      • day open
      • times open
      • documents required
      • age requirements
      • location

Sort & Filter Events

With the new app, it’s easier to find free food-related events near you. Using the Events & Classes section, you can now sort results by date and location, and you can filter results by event type, including: Summer Meals for Kids, Food Giveaways, Health Fairs, Cooking and Nutrition Classes, Farmers Markets, WIC Events, and Other.

Collaborative Data Management

With the new backend of the app, trusted partners throughout the state can now suggest edits to the resources listed on Community Compass, making it easier to keep every food pantry, meal site, and other resource updated. If you regularly work with food pantries or meal sites in your community and are interested in learning more about becoming a trusted partner, please let us know!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

Who is this new version available to? When is it going public to everyone?
On March 30, 2023, this redesigned experience will launch for all users. Community Compass is still available for free to everyone, and includes resources throughout Indiana.

The app isn’t working for me. Can someone help me?
You can always submit feedback about technical issues using the in-app feedback form, which can be found on the Help page of the app. However, if you’re not able to access the app or the feedback form, please contact us and share a brief description of the issue you’re experiencing. We’ll follow up with you to resolve the issue.

I have a suggestion to make to improve the app–how can I share this idea?
We’re continuing to improve the app based on user feedback, so we would love to hear from you! Please submit suggestions through our in-app feedback form, which can be found on the Help page of the app.

I have flyers or other outreach materials for the old version of the app. Can I get new ones?
Since we’ve made several changes to the app, we recommend replacing any old outreach materials you have with new ones. You can download and print flyers from the app’s About page, and you can also use this form to request flyers, stickers, yard signs, and other outreach material to be mailed to your organization free of charge.

Can I schedule an app demonstration or training for my organization?
We’d be happy to schedule an in-person or virtual session with your organization. Email us to set something up.
