AmeriCorps VISTAs

IHN partners with the Corporation for National and Community Service to sponsor several AmeriCorps VISTA members to build capacity within the Indianapolis hunger relief system. AmeriCorps VISTAs work within our community to alleviate poverty. While officially referred to as volunteers, VISTA members do receive a living stipend, end-of-service monetary or education award, and other benefits. Learn more about AmeriCorps VISTA and the Corporation for National and Community Service.

VISTAs are housed at IHN as well as at select partner sites and work on a variety of projects. Samples include piloting cooking and nutrition classes, increasing access to SNAP and WIC programs, grant writing, conducting outreach activities in the international community, and creating networking opportunities to improve communication among small pantries (to name a few!).  Learn more about current VISTAs and their work here.

Indy Hunger Network has sponsored over 20 AmeriCorps VISTA members. We are always excited to see our former members enter graduate school, find a new job, or reinvent their careers. Here’s a sampling of where our VISTA members have landed!
