Our Programs

Our focus is on improving access to food, improving the nutrition of the food supply, and increasing the sustainability of the hunger relief system in our area. Learn more about our past and current programs below.

Advocacy

The food assistance system is broad and complex. Most of the food distributed to food insecure households in Indianapolis comes from federal nutrition programs administered by the State. These programs provide 80% of all food assistance. Advocacy for these programs is essential to ensuring that the government plays its part efficiently and effectively.

Community Compass

Community Compass is a digital tool that connects people in Indiana with food resources including food pantries, meal sites, SNAP & WIC stores, WIC clinics, and food-related events. Users can also screen themselves for federal nutrition program eligibility.

Cooking Matters

Cooking Matters is a free program that teaches participants how to make healthy, nutritious, and affordable meals, and how to use nutrition information to make healthier choices. Available in-person or virtually, participants cook and eat the meal together and then get to take ingredients home with them to make the meal with their families.

Food Pantry Network

Indy Hunger Network provides training and networking opportunities for the 210+ food pantries in Indianapolis. Our focus is on helping existing pantries collaborate with other pantries, increase their effectiveness, and adopt best practices.
