Indy Hunger Network has piloted several successful programs that ended up being led by other organizations. Read below to find out more about those programs and what organizations are running those programs now.
When a load of unsellable, yet edible food is rejected due to logistical errors or imperfections, truck drivers must dispose of it. However, with Food Drop, rejected loads can be accepted 24/7, and drivers receive tax-deductible receipts for their donations. All donated food goes to hunger relief organizations supporting food-insecure households in Indiana.
Food Drop has been transferred to Society of St. Andrew for long-term ownership.
Indy Hunger Network and the Indiana Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) collaborated to create a video series about the benefits of the WIC program. WIC serves to safeguard the health of low-income pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding parents as well as infants and children up to age 5 by providing nutritious foods, information on healthy eating, breastfeeding support, and referrals to health care. Many eligible families do not believe that they will qualify for WIC. Through the use of testimonials, these videos educate viewers and encourage them to see if they may qualify for additional assistance they may need.
